Te Mata Peak and Pou Tour
A private two hour Maori tour
Available daily between Sunrise and Sunset
Havelock North and Hastings Based
From atop lofty Te Mata Peak in Havelock North enjoy the panoramic views across the plains to the summits of the five pillars that hold up the heavens. It is the story of creation; ancient gods and rebellious offspring. Leaving the majestic Pillars of Heaven we will then travel down to Civic Square, Hastings, to the Pillars of the Plains. These carved totems represent all of the eighteen tribes of this area. Unique ancestors, each with their own tale and individual carving style provide a fascinating link to their descendants who still thrive today.
Let a descendant of the legendary giant Te Mata, after whom the peak is named, provide their insider’s perspective to our local Maori People and relate stories of historical and contemporary Maori culture to provide you with their unique and personal point of view.
This is a private tour and is available at the time of the day that suits you.
$95 person (a minimum of 2 people or $190).
Transportation is provided for $50 from Havelock North and Hastings, $80 from Napier for up to 4 people.
We are happy to spend more time with you at an additional charge of $95 per hour.
